ECB Stands Pat on Interest Rates Amid Energy Price Volatility

The European Central Bank (ECB) decided to keep interest rates unchanged at 2.25% amid ongoing uncertainty about energy prices' impact on inflation.

This decision comes after a quarter-point hike in June, which aimed to mitigate the effects of higher oil prices due to the US-Iran war and subsequent disruption of Strait of Hormuz oil shipments.

Analysts speculate that the bank is taking a pause to gather more information as oil prices fluctuate. The ECB's next meeting is scheduled for September 10, which may bring another rate increase.

ECB President Christine Lagarde emphasized that 'uncertainty remains high' and that the full inflationary impact of the energy shock has yet to be seen.
