ECB Targets Lightning-Fast Digital Euro Adoption
The European Central Bank (ECB) is focusing on making the digital euro adoption process smooth and efficient. According to Giuseppe Ciccomascolo, it should take no more than 20 minutes to onboard users for digital euro transactions.
The goal of these efforts is to speed up peer-to-peer transfers, which must be completed within a minute to encourage widespread adoption. Automated wallet funding and co-badged cards could also reduce friction in retail payments, making them as fast as existing card transactions.
However, despite the potential benefits, some consumers may resist adopting the digital euro due to familiarity with existing payment methods and skepticism about the need for another option.
