ECB Unveils New Banknote Designs, Featuring European Culture and Nature Scenes

The European Central Bank (ECB) has unveiled its shortlist of new banknote designs, aiming to enhance cash security and bring a fresh cultural perspective to currency. The initiative includes ten proposed designs themed around 'European culture' and 'Rivers and birds'. These designs feature illustrious individuals such as Maria Skłodowska Curie, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Leonardo da Vinci.

The new banknotes will also feature nature or public life scenes on the reverse side, with themes revolving around art, science, or leisure. The ECB has invited the public to submit feedback until September 21, stated ECB President Christine Lagarde. This is the first complete makeover for euro notes since their introduction in 2002.

The development and testing phases are expected to prolong, and it could be several years before the new designs enter circulation. Current banknotes will maintain their value and circulate alongside the new ones.
