ECB Unveils New Euro Banknote Designs Focusing on European Culture and Nature
The European Central Bank (ECB) has unveiled new banknote designs for the euro zone, featuring themes of 'European culture' and 'rivers and birds'.
There are 10 shortlisted designs in total, which will be open to public debate until September 21. Europeans can provide feedback on the proposals.
The designs feature notable figures such as Maria Skłodowska Curie, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Leonardo da Vinci, as well as birds like the kingfisher and white stork.
According to ECB President Christine Lagarde, the new banknotes will be more secure than their predecessors. Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Gabriel Makhlouf stated that euro banknotes are a powerful representation of shared identity, diversity, and values.
