ECB Unveils New Euro Banknote Designs for Public Consultation

The European Central Bank (ECB) has published new designs for the euro banknotes, marking the first complete redesign since their introduction in 2002. The proposals were selected from over 1,200 entries submitted by graphic designers as part of a European Union-wide design competition. Citizens across Europe are invited to participate in a public consultation, which will run until September 21, 2026.

The new designs feature well-known historical and cultural figures, including Marie Skłodowska Curie, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Leonardo da Vinci. Another series of proposals focuses on nature, with depictions of birds such as the bituminous bird and the white stork. The ECB aims to increase the sustainability of banknotes and reduce their environmental impact through this change.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Ahmet Ismaili, has emphasized the importance of this initiative for his country. As Kosovo uses the euro as its official currency, participating in the public consultation is seen as an opportunity not only to express a preference for the new design but also to strengthen financial knowledge and education.
