ECB Warns of Higher Interest Rates Amid Rising Oil Prices
A senior policy official at the European Central Bank has warned that interest rates may rise again if oil prices remain around $100 per barrel until the end of the year. This comes after a recent 25 basis point increase to 2.5%, with Austrian central bank president Martin Kocher highlighting the elevated inflation risks compared to previous months.
Ongoing tensions in the Middle East and high energy prices have led to a surge in oil prices, which have risen over 45% since the breakdown of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire in July. This has created a challenging environment for businesses, particularly those sensitive to energy costs, such as Super Micro Computer Inc (SMCI).
