ECB Warns Tech Rally May End in Correction
Researchers affiliated with the European Central Bank (ECB) have issued a warning about the potential for a correction in the tech sector. According to their analysis, published on August 17, 2026, the 'blistering rally' in tech stocks could be followed by a pullback.
The team of economists, including Malin Andersson, Stefano Corradin, Kalin Nikolov, Johannes Breckenfelder and Maria Antonietta Viola, argue that as AI adoption spreads across sectors, risk becomes diffuse, leading to higher premiums on stock prices. Unless earnings growth compensates, they expect a decline in stock values.
The researchers also highlight the potential for overconfidence among investors, which can lead to prices exceeding fundamental support levels. This, too, could result in a correction, even if market conditions appear calm.
