ECB's Digital Euro App Aims for Universal Accessibility

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced that its digital euro app will include accessibility features to address barriers faced by users with different needs. The design of the app will exceed the requirements of the European Accessibility Act, which aims to ensure that websites and mobile applications are accessible to everyone. To achieve this, the ECB plans to incorporate screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, simplified language, and reduced-motion settings.

The digital euro pilot is scheduled to begin in 2027, during which usability and accessibility testing will take place. This initiative demonstrates the ECB's commitment to making digital payments inclusive for all users, regardless of their abilities or needs. By prioritizing accessibility, the ECB aims to ensure that everyone can use the digital euro app with ease.
