ECB's Dolenc Backs September Rate Hike to Combat Inflation
European Central Bank policymaker Primoz Dolenc has expressed support for an interest rate hike in September to combat inflation driven by rising energy costs. The move would raise the deposit facility rate from the current 2.25% to 2.50%, a level set in June 2026.
Dolenc emphasized that while economic data is stronger than expected, it's essential to take proactive steps to anchor inflation expectations and prevent a cycle of higher wages and further inflation.
The ECB's decision has significant implications for Indian investors due to its influence on global financial conditions. A tightening of global liquidity can impact foreign capital flows into Indian markets, affecting the exchange rate between the Euro and the Indian Rupee.
