EFCC Sets Record with ₦1 Trillion Asset Recovery Under Olukoyede's Stewardship
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved its highest record of monetary asset recovery in both national and foreign currencies under the leadership of Ola Olukoyede. In a press briefing, Olukoyede disclosed that the commission recovered an all-time high of ₦1,233,612,040,411.11 in naira, $684,478,457.32 in dollars, £373,905.78 in pound sterling, and €9,343,803.66 in euros.
According to Olukoyede, approximately 33% of the recovered amount was for the federal government, while 67% was on behalf of ministries, departments, agencies, state revenue services, companies, individuals, and foreign victims. This means that two-thirds of the recovered naira were not directly for the federal government.
The EFCC chairman also highlighted the commission's prosecutorial efforts, stating that they received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases in court, and secured 10,872 convictions between October 2023 and July 2026. This represents a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1%.
