Elevated US Inflation Expectations Stabilize in August
US consumers' inflation expectations have stabilized at 3.6% for the next year, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Survey of Consumer Expectations.
The median one-year-ahead inflation rate remained unchanged in August 2026 compared to July.
However, price growth expectations for gas rose sharply by 1.7 percentage points to 4.6%, and food prices are expected to increase by 5.3%.
Medical-care price expectations also rose slightly, from 8.9% to 9.1%, while college education costs are predicted to rise by 6.1%
