Ellis County Unemployment Rate Steady, State Average Remains at 3.8%

The unemployment rate in Ellis County, Kansas remained steady at 3.5% in July, according to preliminary estimates from the Labor Market Information (LMI) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL). This is a slight increase from June's rate of 3.5%, but still below the state average of 3.8%. The statewide unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.8% in July, matching June's rate.

The labor force participation rate for Kansas decreased to 66.7% in July, which is down from previous months. Seasonally adjusted job estimates show that total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 500 jobs from June, with the private sector adding 1,500 new positions and government decreasing by 1,000.

The largest job gains were in the private education and health services sector, which added 1,800 jobs. In contrast, manufacturing saw a decrease of 1,400 jobs.
