EM Assets Surge on Easing Rate Worries
Emerging market stocks and currencies are experiencing a boost as concerns over US interest rates ease. The key driver behind this shift is a retreat in a crucial US inflation measure, which has strengthened hopes that the Federal Reserve may not need to raise interest rates soon.
MSCI's gauge for developing world equities has traded 0.5% higher on Friday and is on track for its biggest weekly gain since June, with a close to 3% advance in store.
The Bloomberg dollar gauge, which tracks the US dollar against a basket of emerging-market currencies, edged lower as investors reassess their bets on US interest rates.
A key US inflation measure showed a retreat from previous highs, which has weakened the case for an imminent rate hike by the Federal Reserve. This development has buoyed investor sentiment and fueled gains in emerging market assets.
