EM Stocks Bounce as Rate Hike Odds Eased
Emerging market stocks and currencies saw a modest rebound as investors reassessed the likelihood of a US Federal Reserve rate hike following a softer-than-expected jobs report.
The MSCI emerging-market equities index rose by 0.73%, while its currency gauge added 0.11% after July's payrolls data suggested that higher interest rates may not be imminent, according to Reuters.
A weaker US dollar can make it easier for emerging markets to attract investment and reduce their borrowing costs, which in turn can help stabilize local currencies and ease inflationary pressures.
However, the energy wildcard remains a concern, with Iran's stance on reopening the Strait of Hormuz potentially keeping oil prices high and making it harder for central banks to tame inflation.
