Energy Price Surge Drives Euro Zone Inflation Above 3%
Energy price pressures have pushed euro zone inflation back above 3% in August, with businesses likely facing higher interest rates as a result. According to Eurostat's flash estimate, headline inflation in the euro area rose to 3.3% from 2.9% in July, its highest level since September 2024.
The acceleration of energy inflation was even more pronounced, increasing to 14.3% from 10.3%. However, core inflation - which excludes volatile components such as energy and food - dipped slightly to 2.4% from 2.5%.
