EU Net-Zero Target Under Fire as Belgian Policymaker Questions Credibility
The European Union's net-zero target for 2050 has been met with skepticism by Pierre Wunsch, the governor of the National Bank of Belgium and a member of the European Central Bank's governing council. Wunsch expressed concern that the EU's insistence on meeting this goal is damaging its credibility.
He stated, 'My concern is that it damages the credibility of the policy instrument. I mean, most people will tell you we are not going to be net zero in 2050.'
Wunsch acknowledged that his views may not be widely shared, but emphasized the importance of discussing the EU's climate targets.
