EU Redesigns Euro Notes with Focus on European Culture and Nature

The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a consultation on new designs for euro banknotes, featuring notable European figures and cultural spaces. Despite no longer being part of the trading bloc, individuals can still participate in choosing the design.

The current notes were last redesigned 20 years ago, and over 1,000 designers submitted work initially, with 10 designs currently under consultation. The two themes are 'European Culture: Shared Cultural Spaces' and 'Rivers and Birds: Resilience in Diversity.'

For European Culture, the €5 note features Maria Callas, while the €100 note features Leonardo da Vinci. For Rivers and Birds, the €50 note showcases a white stork flying over a meandering river.

The consultation is open to the public, and individuals can submit their opinions on the designs through an online portal. The new notes are not due to enter circulation for several years, so those with summer holidays planned in the EU this year still have a chance to see the current architectural designs.
