EUR/GBP Surges on Hormuz Ceasefire Hopes
The EUR/GBP currency pair is making gains as optimism grows over a potential de-escalation in tensions at the Strait of Hormuz. This strategically important waterway handles roughly one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments, and its reopening could ease supply concerns for the Eurozone.
A reported agreement between Washington and Tehran to establish a ceasefire has given the Euro a boost, with the EUR/GBP pair trading above 0.8570 and testing the session high near 0.8574. The technical picture is also improving, with the pair moving above its 20- and 100-period moving averages on the 4-hour chart.
However, traders remain cautious as the reported agreement has yet to receive official confirmation. Discussions between Iran and Oman over management of the Strait are inconsistent, limiting the Euro's upside. Markets will wait for clearer evidence before fully pricing in a sustained improvement in regional conditions.
