EUR/USD and GBP/USD Pause to Breathe as Dollar Eases
The EUR/USD and GBP/USD currency pairs edged higher against the US dollar on Tuesday as the foreign exchange market saw relatively subdued trading.
Despite modest gains, both pairs continue to face pressure over longer time frames. The EUR/USD pair rose 0.07% to trade at 1.1375, while the GBP/USD pair gained 0.08% to reach 1.3300.
The euro and pound have declined significantly this year, with the EUR/USD down 3.12% since the beginning of the year and the GBP/USD down 1.20%. However, sterling has posted a small gain over the last month, rising 0.31%.
Currency markets are expected to remain focused on upcoming economic data, inflation readings, and central bank commentary from both the United States and Europe. Interest rate expectations continue to drive major currency pairs, with traders waiting for fresh catalysts that could determine whether the recent recovery gathers pace or proves short-lived.
