EUR/USD Stuck in Neutral as Policy Outlooks Take Center Stage
The EUR/USD pair continues to trade below the key level of 1.1580 as investors remain focused on policy outlooks from both the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Federal Reserve.
Inflation data for the Eurozone showed mixed results, with second-quarter GDP expanding 0.4% quarter on quarter, but headline inflation accelerating to 2.9% year on year and core inflation standing at 2.5%. Germany's inflation rate rose to 2.8%, while its GDP expanded just 0.2% quarter on quarter.
The ECB has maintained a relatively hawkish stance due to elevated inflation, which could lead to further tightening measures. This moderate support for the euro is tempered by weak growth in the region's largest economies and ongoing geopolitical tensions that have driven up oil prices.
In contrast, recent U.S. jobs data have complicated the Fed's outlook, with a decline in nonfarm payrolls and revisions downward of employment gains for May and June. The unemployment rate remains at 4.1%, but softer hiring and wage growth suggest a cooling labor market that could prompt a more cautious Fed stance.
