EUR/USD Surges as Investors Overlook Geopolitical Tensions
The recent surge in oil prices and geopolitical tensions might have seemed like a recipe for disaster, but it appears that investors are choosing to look beyond the noise. Despite Brent crude hovering just shy of $100 per barrel, US equities are pushing to fresh record highs, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 grinding higher.
This upbeat tone in equities has had a knock-on effect on demand for the US dollar, allowing the euro to find firm footing. Markets seem to be pricing in a more constructive geopolitical outcome, with risk sentiment reflecting this optimism.
From a technical analysis perspective, the EUR/USD pair has pulled back slightly after its recent rally, which saw it break above the 1.18 handle. The key zone of resistance is now around 1.1765, with support beneath that coming in at 1.1673. A sustained move below this level would undermine the bullish structure and could see the pair drift back towards the origin of the breakout near the 1.1600 area.
While the situation remains highly sensitive to geopolitical developments, the balance of risks appears tilted slightly in favour of the euro for now. However, a sharp move in oil or a renewed flight to safety could quickly change this outlook.
