EUR/USD Tumbles as ECB Convinces Markets of Tighter Policy
The European Central Bank (ECB) has convinced markets that it will continue to tighten monetary policy in September, following its decision to keep interest rates steady at its latest meeting.
This has led to a strengthening of the US dollar against the euro, as investors increasingly believe that the United States can absorb higher borrowing costs more comfortably than Europe.
The recent rebound in oil prices is also putting upward pressure on European yields and strengthening the dollar through the terms-of-trade channel, making it harder for the euro to rise despite expectations of tighter policy from the ECB.
