EUR/USD Waits on US Inflation Data as Market Volatility Looms
The EUR/USD currency pair has been trading in a narrow range above key support levels as traders wait for the release of the latest US inflation data.
The upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, scheduled to be released later today, is expected to have a significant impact on the pair's near-term direction. Market participants are holding their positions ahead of this critical event, which could set the tone for the Federal Reserve's policy path.
A hotter-than-expected inflation reading would likely reinforce the Fed's 'higher for longer' stance, potentially boosting the US dollar and putting pressure on EUR/USD below its current support zone. On the other hand, a softer inflation print could revive expectations of rate cuts later this year, weighing on the dollar and providing a lift to the euro.
The 1.0800 level has acted as a robust floor since late February, with the pair's 50-day moving average sitting near 1.0785. Immediate resistance is seen at 1.0850, followed by the 1.0900 psychological barrier. Analysts note that a break below 1.0800 could open the door to a test of the 200-day moving average at 1.0740.
