Euro Area Current Account Surplus Rises to €35 Billion in June

The European Central Bank (ECB) released its monthly balance of payments data for June 2026, showing that the euro area recorded a current account surplus of €35 billion. This is an increase from the previous month's surplus of €26 billion.

The 12-month cumulative surplus stood at €276 billion, representing 1.7% of the euro area GDP. However, this figure is down from last year's surplus of €305 billion (2.0% of euro area GDP).

In terms of financial account, euro area residents' net acquisitions of non-euro area portfolio investment securities totalled €820 billion in the 12 months to June 2026. Non-residents' net acquisitions of euro area portfolio investment securities reached €1,123 billion over the same period.
