Euro Area Defence Spending Soars, ECB Warns of Uncertainty
The European Central Bank has released new data on defence spending across the euro area, revealing that budgets are rising sharply.
The ECB's analysis, presented by Executive Board member Philip R. Lane in Dublin last month, shows that defence outlays are climbing fast and are expected to continue through the decade.
The figures come from Eurostat, the European Commission's Spring 2026 Forecast, NATO's press release of July 7, 2026, and the European Defence Agency.
