Euro Area Producer Price Index Declines Amid US-Iran Ceasefire Agreement
The Euro Area Producer Price Index (PPI) saw its first decline in four months, easing from 5.9% in May to 4.6% in June, according to data released by Eurostat.
This deceleration is significant, as the PPI had reached its highest level since March 2023 in May, raising concerns over lingering inflationary pressures.
On a monthly basis, producer prices fell by 0.3%, influenced by the US-Iran ceasefire agreement in June, which led to a decline in energy costs of 1.5%.
The moderation in PPI has relieved some pressure on the European Central Bank (ECB) regarding potential interest rate increases to contend with inflation, but market participants remain focused on upcoming July inflation assessments.
