Euro Area Producer Prices Slide to Four-Month Low
The Euro Area Producer Price Index (PPI) decreased to 4.6% in June, down from 5.9% in May, according to data released by Eurostat. This moderation is significant as it shows a slowdown in producer price inflation and aligns with analysts' expectations.
The decline of 0.3% on a monthly basis was influenced by the US, Iran ceasefire agreement in June, which led to a decrease in energy costs by 1.5%. While this relief may ease pressure on the European Central Bank (ECB) regarding interest rate increases, market participants remain focused on upcoming July inflation assessments.
The euro appreciated by 0.20% against the US dollar following the release of the economic data and currently trades at $1.1553. However, the EUR/USD pair remains confined to a consolidation range observed in recent months, reflecting ongoing market uncertainty regarding a prevailing trend.
