Euro Banknotes Get a Makeover: Public Invited to Design the Future
The Central Bank of Cyprus has launched an initiative to engage citizens in the design process for new euro banknotes, as part of a Europe-wide European Central Bank survey.
The ECB presented 10 shortlisted proposals for the redesign of euro banknotes since their introduction in 2002. The designs were chosen from over 1,200 graphic designers who participated in a EU-wide competition. Twenty-five designers were selected to develop proposals based on two themes: European culture and Rivers and birds.
An independent jury consisting of experts in graphic design, communication, neuroscience, and history selected the shortlisted proposals. The public is now invited to review the designs through an online survey that will remain open until September 21, 2026.
