Euro Banknotes Get a Makeover: Public Survey Launched
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a public survey to gather input on the design of the next generation of Euro banknotes. The online consultation is open until September 21, 2026, and features ten shortlisted designs based on two themes: European Culture and Rivers and Birds.
The ECB received over 1,200 applications from graphic designers across the EU, with twenty-five designers invited to develop proposals. An independent jury then selected the top ten designs for public consideration.
The new banknotes will not only feature updated designs but also incorporate improved security features to prevent counterfeiting and make them more accessible for people with visual impairments. The ECB aims to reduce the environmental footprint of future banknotes by using more durable materials and sustainable production methods.
