Euro Banknotes Get a Makeover with Greek Iconic Figures
The European Central Bank (ECB) has unveiled new designs for euro banknotes that will feature prominent Greek symbols. The change comes after 26 years in circulation, and this time, Greece is more represented than ever.
The first theme, 'European Culture', includes six iconic figures from the arts, sciences, and history, one for each denomination: 5 euros features Maria Callas, 10 euros features Ludwig van Beethoven, 20 euros features Marie Sklodowska-Curie, 50 euros features Miguel de Cervantes, 100 euros features Leonardo da Vinci, and 200 euros features Bertha von Suttner.
The second theme, 'Rivers and Birds', marks a departure from the traditional focus on famous individuals. This time, nature, connectivity, and environmental awareness are highlighted through intricate designs and vivid colours. The Evros river represents Greece in this theme.
