Euro Benefits Modestly from ECB Rate Hikes: Commerzbank
According to Commerzbank's Thu Lan Nguyen, the Euro has seen limited gains from past and expected European Central Bank (ECB) rate hikes. This is because markets view these hikes as necessary to correct an overly low policy rate and preserve the Euro's value rather than boost it.
The ECB's monetary tightening is seen primarily as a measure to preserve the euro's value, not significantly increase it. The market appears to believe that the ECB's previous policy rate was too low.
Nguyen points out that the US dollar remains the dominant force in driving EUR/USD trends. Developments on the Euro side can amplify or dampen these trends, but do not reverse them.
