Euro Buoys on Germany's Surprising Q4 GDP Growth
The euro edged higher on Friday after Germany's preliminary gross domestic product (GDP) data for the fourth quarter came in better than market forecasts.
The data, released by the German Federal Statistical Office, showed a quarterly contraction of 0.2%, beating expectations of a 0.3% decline.
This modest improvement offered a rare piece of positive news for the eurozone economy, which has been struggling with weak industrial output and geopolitical uncertainties.
The euro's reaction to the data was modest, rising from session lows near $1.0350 to trade around $1.0380 against the US dollar shortly after the release.
