Euro Faces Critical Test Against Swiss Franc at 200-Week Moving Average
The euro has been on an upward trajectory against the Swiss franc, but it's about to face a critical test that could determine its future path. A recent recovery in the euro has been driven by diverging monetary policies between the European Central Bank and the Swiss National Bank. The ECB is concerned about inflation, while the SNB has kept interest rates at zero, making euro-denominated assets more attractive than francs.
The euro has cleared its 100-week moving average, a key technical indicator that analysts use to gauge trends. However, it's now closing in on its 200-week moving average, which it has only rarely breached and held above for an extended period. If the euro breaks decisively above this level, analysts expect it to move towards the 2024 peak of 0.9930, with a stop at the 2025 high of 0.9662.
On the other hand, if the euro fails to clear the 200-week moving average after such a strong approach, it could dent sentiment and drag the currency down to 0.9200 or even back to its year-to-date low of 0.8979, potentially reviving expectations of a return to its long-term downtrend.
