The Euro strengthened against the Canadian Dollar on Tuesday after German IFO business sentiment data beat expectations. The Business Climate Index rose to 88.8 in August, outpacing market estimates of 87.2.

The Current Assessment Index and Expectations Index also demonstrated strength, rising to 88.5 and 89.1 respectively. The Canadian Dollar struggled under market caution stemming from collapsed US-Canada trade talks, with tension escalating after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to match US tariffs dollar-for-dollar.

The commodity-linked CAD currency faced additional pressure from subdued crude oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) trading around $84.20 per barrel at the time of writing. The EUR/CAD cross appreciated as the Euro held gains following the release of the German IFO data, trading around 1.6160 during the European hours.
