Euro Holds Gains Against CAD Amid Eurozone Sentix Investor Confidence and ECB Rate Hike Expectations
The Euro has remained stronger against the Canadian Dollar for the second consecutive day, following the release of economic data from the Eurozone. The EUR/CAD cross is currently trading around 1.6080.
Eurozone Sentix Investor Confidence rose significantly to 5.1 in September from 0.9 in August, marking a positive turn after five months of negative sentiment. However, Germany's Industrial Production fell 1.1% month-over-month in July, missing market expectations and slowing from 0% in June.
The Euro found support despite the sluggish economic output in Germany due to expectations of monetary tightening by the European Central Bank (ECB). The ECB is widely anticipated to raise its key interest rate by 25 basis points at its upcoming policy meeting on Thursday, according to Andrew Kenningham, chief Europe economist at Capital Economics.
The Canadian Dollar may receive support from rising crude oil prices due to tensions between the US and Iran. Energy prices surged following a geopolitical escalation over the weekend, with Brent crude oil reaching $96.28/bbl, its highest in six weeks. This has raised concerns about more persistent inflation pressures.
