Euro Holds Ground as German Business Morale Surpasses Expectations

The euro maintained its recent gains against the Canadian dollar on Tuesday, thanks to stronger-than-expected German business morale data.

The Ifo Institute's business climate index rose to 87.3 in May, surpassing analyst forecasts of 86.7 and beating the revised 86.2 in April.

This uptick in optimism among German companies, particularly in manufacturing and services, signals that Europe's economic recovery is gaining traction.

The eurozone's largest economy showed resilience against the Canadian dollar, reflecting growing confidence that the European Central Bank (ECB) won't need to cut rates aggressively.

The Canadian dollar struggled as crude oil prices remained under pressure due to concerns about global demand and domestic economic data showing a slight cooling in Canadian retail sales.
