Euro Rally Stalls as Interest Rate Spreads Take Center Stage
The euro's recent rally against the US dollar has stalled, according to Scotiabank's foreign exchange strategy team. The analysts point to the narrowing of yield differentials as a key factor in this development.
The report suggests that without a further widening of spreads in favor of the euro, the currency may struggle to regain upward momentum. This is due to the relative attractiveness of the dollar shifting as market participants reassess the pace of monetary policy normalization by the European Central Bank (ECB) versus the Federal Reserve.
The divergence between US and Eurozone economic indicators has kept the dollar supported, even as the euro had earlier gained on expectations of ECB tightening. The EUR/USD pair has traded within a narrow range, with immediate resistance seen near 1.09 and support established around 1.08.
