Euro Redesign Sparks Widespread Interest Among Europeans

The European Central Bank (ECB) is redesigning the euro notes and has asked for public input to choose one of ten candidate designs. The survey, which launched in July, has received a significant response with six million people voting in just one week.

This number translates to approximately one million votes per day, indicating a strong interest among Europeans in having a say in what their money looks like.

The designs include half featuring famous Europeans and the other half depicting birds and rivers. The author of the piece, Maria Demertzis, notes that her teenage sons were enthusiastic about voting despite being part of the digital generation who rarely handle physical cash.

In fact, they preferred the designs featuring birds and rivers over those with prominent Europeans. Their reasoning was that water and nature are timeless, while people are ephemeral and can't represent the entire European public.
