Euro Strengthens Against Dollar as Traders Reduce Net Short Positions
According to ING analysts, positioning in futures markets currently supports a gradual appreciation of the euro against the US dollar. This assessment is based on data that shows speculative traders have been reducing their net short positions on the euro.
The euro has appreciated by roughly 1.5% against the dollar over the past month, reflecting improved market sentiment. ING's view is that much of the dollar's strength is already priced in, and the ECB's cautious approach to rate cuts could provide additional support to the euro.
Other analysts remain cautious, noting that geopolitical risks and inflation dynamics could still alter the outlook. However, for traders, ING recommends monitoring key economic indicators, such as eurozone PMI data and US non-farm payrolls, to gauge momentum.
