Euro Strengthens on Hawkish ECB Outlook Amid Inflation Fears
The Euro has strengthened against the US Dollar for the third consecutive day, reaching around 1.1680 during Asian hours on Friday. The reason behind this rise lies in the strong economic fundamentals of the Eurozone, particularly Germany's robust figures.
The German producer prices rose by 3.0% year-on-year in July, exceeding market expectations of 2.7%. This marked the fastest annual increase since April 2023 and underscored persistent inflationary momentum across the Eurozone. Soaring European natural gas prices, driven by supply shortages in the Middle East, are also keeping inflationary risks elevated.
The ECB's hawkish stance is further supported by these ongoing price pressures. The central bank is likely to continue raising interest rates throughout the year to combat inflation. However, upside potential for the EUR/USD pair may remain capped as the Greenback finds renewed strength due to the US Treasury's bond buyback efforts.
