Euro Surges Against Pound as German Sentiment Hits Yearly High
The Euro (EUR) climbed against the British Pound (GBP) on Tuesday as German economic sentiment rose to its highest level in over a year. The EUR/GBP pair reached session highs at 0.8555, nearing the top of the weekly range around 0.8560.
Data from the ZEW Institute showed that Germany's Economic Sentiment Index increased to 34.2 in August from 26.3 in July, beating expectations of a more moderate improvement to 30. This uptick is attributed to the government's infrastructure plans benefiting the German economy.
However, the report also warns of a serious threat to economic activity due to record low water levels in the Rhine.
