Euro Surges on Diverging Interest Rate Expectations
The euro has reached its highest level in two months, climbing to around $1.160 as investors adjust their expectations for interest rate changes.
This upward trend is largely driven by reduced bets on a Federal Reserve rate increase this year, following recent economic data that suggests the Fed will keep rates unchanged at its next meeting.
The contrast between the Eurozone and US monetary policy expectations has grown, with investors pricing in an 84% probability of a European Central Bank (ECB) rate hike in September.
This widening gap highlights the diverging paths of the two central banks, with the ECB more likely to raise rates while the Fed holds steady. However, elevated energy prices remain a concern for the Euro Area, particularly as tensions in the Middle East show little sign of easing.
