Euro Surges on Hawkish ECB Pricing and Strong PPI Data

The Euro has strengthened against the US Dollar in recent times, thanks to improved economic indicators from the euro area. A strong Producer Price Index (PPI) reading and firmer expectations for European Central Bank (ECB) interest rate hikes have contributed to this trend. According to Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret of Scotiabank, markets now price more than one 25 basis point hike by year-end.

The PPI figures showed a renewed increase in inflation pressure, with the euro area's July reading reaching 5.8% y/y. This is pushing toward the cycle high of 5.9% seen in May. The ECB remains committed to addressing intensifying inflation risks, which has led to an extension of hawkish pricing beyond the September tightening.

Yield spreads are also offering renewed support for the Euro, with a narrow FV estimate currently at 1.1623. Short-term EUR/USD technicals are neutral to bullish, with clear support below 1.16 and specifically around 1.1580. The recent stabilization in spot has pulled the RSI back into the mid-50s, shifting the balance of risk to near-term strength.
