Euro Surges Past Dollar in Cuba's Informal Market
The informal currency exchange market in Cuba saw mixed results on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The U.S. dollar experienced a minor decline of 1.5 Cuban pesos (CUP) from the previous day, settling at an average rate of 673 CUP. However, this drop does not indicate a reversal of its upward trend, as it remains up by 7.5 pesos and 1.1% compared to a week ago.
The euro, on the other hand, continued its strong performance in Cuba's parallel market, reaching a new peak at 789 CUP. This marks an increase of 3.5 pesos from the previous day and a 3.1% rise over the past week. The euro has outpaced the dollar by 116 pesos, solidifying its dominance in the informal market.
The Monetary and Financial Unit (MLC) also saw a rise, but its value is considered indicative due to low transaction volume. The MLC closed at an average rate of 491 CUP, with a buying rate of 425 CUP and a selling rate of 556 CUP.
