Euro Treads Water Amid Mixed Data and US Jobs Hopes

The euro traded flat against the dollar on Friday as investors weighed mixed German economic data against growing expectations for a strong US jobs report.

Mixed signals from Germany's latest indicators left the euro without a clear catalyst, with industrial production figures beating expectations but trade data showing a sharper-than-anticipated drop in exports.

The contradictory picture complicates the European Central Bank's policy outlook, as markets are pricing in a roughly 70% chance of a rate cut at the next meeting.

Ahead of the US jobs report, economists expect Nonfarm Payrolls to show a gain of around 180,000 jobs for the last month, with the unemployment rate holding steady at 4.0%. A stronger-than-expected reading would reinforce the Federal Reserve's higher-for-longer stance and potentially boost the dollar.

Conversely, a miss could revive bets on an early Fed rate cut, which would likely weaken the dollar and provide some support for the euro.
