Euro Zone Bond Yields Decline on Slowing US Inflation
European government bond yields declined on Wednesday after US inflation data showed a slower pace in July. The benchmark for the euro zone, fell 2 basis points to 3.157%, while the country's 2-year bond yield dropped 1 basis point to 2.774%. This decrease in bond yields comes as US Treasury yields also moved lower following the release of inflation data.
The annual rate of US inflation stood at 3.4% in July, a decrease from 3.5% in June and matching economist forecasts. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, also declined slightly on an annual basis last month. The stable oil price, remaining flat at $88.90 per barrel, may have contributed to the reduced inflation rate.
Investors and analysts expect the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee to carefully examine August inflation data before making its next interest rate decision in September.
