Euro Zone Business Activity Returns to Growth Amid Inflation and Conflict Fears
The euro zone's business activity has finally rebounded in July, marking its first expansion in four months. According to the S&P Global Flash Euro Zone Composite PMI Output Index, the region's economic growth rose to 51.9 from June's 50.0, with new orders growing for the first time since February.
The pace of expansion was the fastest since April 2023, driven by a rebound in new orders. However, export orders continued to decline, but at a slower rate than in previous months.
Economist Henry Chambers from Capital Economics stated that while the data suggests activity is rebounding and inflationary pressures are easing, the improvements may be short-lived due to rising energy prices caused by renewed conflict in the Middle East.
