Euro Zone Consumers Cut Inflation Expectations Amid Brief Energy Price Relief
The European Central Bank's (ECB) Consumer Expectations Survey found that euro zone consumers cut their inflation expectations last month, likely due to a brief reprieve in energy prices following a truce in the Middle East.
The median respondent saw inflation over the next 12 months at 3.0% in June, down from 3.5% in May. Expectations for inflation three years ahead declined to 2.8% from 2.9%, while the view five years ahead remained unchanged at 2.4%.
The survey suggests that consumers are becoming less concerned about inflation, which could have implications for monetary policy decisions by the ECB.
