Euro Zone Consumers Cut Inflation Expectations Amid Brief Energy Price Lull
Consumers in the euro zone have reduced their inflation expectations for the next year, according to the European Central Bank's Consumer Expectations Survey. The median respondent predicted inflation at 3.0% over the following 12 months, down from 3.5% in May. This decrease is likely attributed to a brief truce in the Middle East that led to lower energy prices.
The poll also showed that expectations for inflation three years ahead declined to 2.8% from 2.9%. However, the view five years ahead remained unchanged at 2.4%. The European Central Bank's survey is based on a poll of respondents who were asked about their inflation expectations.
