Euro Zone Consumers Cut Inflation Expectations Amid Short-Lived Energy Price Reprieve
The European Central Bank's Consumer Expectations Survey revealed that euro zone consumers have become less optimistic about inflation, with their median forecast for the next 12 months decreasing to 3.0% in June from 3.5% in May.
This decline in inflation expectations is likely attributed to a truce in the Middle East that led to lower energy prices, although this reprieve proved short-lived.
The survey also showed that expectations for inflation three years ahead declined to 2.8% from 2.9%, while the outlook for five years ahead remained unchanged at 2.4%.
